After a lay off of just more than a year, Alantez Fox finally got back in the ring last Saturday against Jonathan Garcia. The 22-year old light middleweight won a six round unanimous decision, improving his record to 13 victories, 1 draw and no losses. ThaBoxingVoice.com had a chance to catch up with Fox after his fight.
Alantez Fox rated his performance as a C+. Although he did not fight since early September last year, the fighter told us that the ring rust didn’t affect his performance. He explained, “The year off made me hungry. I was actually in camp for over three months before this fight.”
When asked whether he was looking for an early knockout or trying to prolong the fight to get some rounds in, Fox answered, “I was looking to get some rounds in. But if the opportunity came, I definitely would have taken the knockout. But at this point in my career, I feel that I do not need to go to war with those guys. I am the superior boxer.”
After signing to veteran boxing promotor, Lou DiBella, Alantez Fox is looking for more activity in his career. “I am looking to fight every two months. And when the number of rounds of the fights go up, maybe every three months.”
Headlining the card was Frankie Galarza. Galarza and Fox fought to a draw two years ago. We asked him whether he still holds a grudge towards Galarza because of that fight. He told us, “No. I support him. Every time he wins, I look better too.”
