Since Bob Arum has announced Pacquaio will now be fighting in Macau, China once a year, he is able to train in his native country more often.
Freddie Roach explained, “Training here in General Santos is really good, he’s really comfortable. We have a really nice gym here, his family is here, and his home is here. So I think he’s more at ease.”
The last time Pacquiao underwent a training camp in the Philippines was against Brandon Rios. Pacquiao dominated Rios throughout the entire bout as most boxing insiders predicted, but did not have the same explosiveness as he once had. People have speculated the year lay off, in addition to the devastating knockout loss he suffered against Juan Manuel Marquez was the cause of the issue. Other boxing insiders such as Paulie Malignaggi, believed Pacquiao’s reduction in power was due to his submission to undergo random drug testing.
Whichever the case may be, no one pointed to the fact his training camp took place in the Philippines, and rightfully so. In his very next bout against Timothy Bradley, he underwent training camp at the Wild Card Gym and dominated once again in the same manner.
The training camps in Los Angeles or the Philippines apparently deliver the same physical form of Pacquiao, but from a mental aspect, General Santos may be the better location.
Pacquiao is also reportedly receiving the best sparring sessions of his career. Freddie Roach claimed, “His conditioning and training has been really good. We’ve got great sparring partners. This camp has the best sparring partners we’ve ever had. They are going to be getting him on top of his game.”
With a combination of undergoing training camp in General Santos, and having the best sparring in his life. Manny Pacquiao has all the ingredients to come into the fight fully prepared to receive another victory in Macau, China on November 22.
