Nestor Gibbs was the ball once again as he interviewed world light-welterweight champion boxer, Danny Garcia.
Noting Garcia’s tendency to not think forward in terms of his future bouts, Gibbs added that Garcia’s father and trainer, Angel Garcia said that his son’s upcoming August 9, non-title fight with Rod Salka, would be used to acclimate Garcia to 147 pounds. In a strong case of confidence, Angel Garcia believes he could beat anyone in the welterweight division. Does Danny Garcia feel the same way? “No doubt,” added Garcia. “I can compete with any of those guys. Those guys have not faced anyone that I have faced. I fought Matthysse when nobody wanted to fight Matthysse.”
Garcia described Keith Thurman, current Interim WBA Welterweight champion, as a ‘good fighter.’ “He still has not beaten anybody to be elite,” opined Garcia. “He does not sell out stadiums.”
Who would Garcia prefer to be his first opponent at 147? Will Garcia give Shawn Porter a shot? “Shawn Porter is doing pretty good. He beat Devon Alexander and Paulie Malignaggi,” said Garcia. “I am a different fighter than those guys. I am definitely going to 147 and will make an impact fast.”
Danny Garcia will have to get by Rod Salka first, but from Garcia’s attitude, it should be a walk in the park for the undefeated champion.
