Guillermo Rigondeaux has been a man in search of an opponent, a TV date and an uncertain future after his dominating victory over Nonito Donaire in April of this year.
Since that victory HBO has shown little to no interest in showcasing Rigondeaux (although they have somewhat changed their tune) and Rigondeaux has felt that one of his promoters, Top Rank have done very little to get him back on TV but there is a bout that Rigondeaux’s manager Gary Hyde has interest in and it could possibly put Rigondeaux back on HBO. The opponent, Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. should he be victorious in his upcoming bout on September 20th.
“It would be a great fight,” said Hyde. “We like worthy challenges and Vasquez is a worthy opponent perhaps for December.”
