Junior middleweight contender Jermell Charlo made short work of Joachim Alcine in the feature bout of PBC on NBCSN’s Halloween in Houston card. Charlo scored a TKO victory in the 6th round with virtually no trouble from the as expected overmatched Alcine.

It was a big night for Jermell, and only Jermell, as he headlined a card in front of his hometown crowd of Houston, Texas at the NRG Arena. However, the opponent offered little in terms of fan interests heading into the fight, and the one-sided beat down left little to suggest otherwise.

Regardless, it was a Charlo victory and it puts him in the position to get a big fight at the beginning of the year.

Jermell was landing big shots and Alcine got older with every passing round, although he appeared plenty old from the start of the contest. Alcine was just too slow and Jermell was just too sharp. It really was an uneven contest.

If Jermell wants to catch up to his brother, newly crowned 154lb titlist Jermall Charlo, he will have to step up the competition drastically. He doesn’t need to capture a title to compete with Jermall, but he will have to mount a significant head from the tough 154lb weight class.

Jermall is in action before 2015 is up, defending his title on another Texas card scheduled in November.

Jermell did call out Floyd Mayweather Jr. during his post-fight interview, although he was in reality talking about the junior middleweight WBC title Floyd has yet to vacate. But I’m sure Jermell would not scoff at the payday against Floyd. There are just too many solid fights in the division for Jermell to regress any further in competition than he did last night.
