“Well, its going to be a tough tough fight but nothing is impossible,” said Castillo Jr.”He has been training like when he was young and hungry. We know Provodnikov and how he fights but I think my dad has more experience [which will be helpful]. [Fighting] 25 years as pro boxing is a lot.”
Castillo being chosen as Provodnikov’s opponent came as a shock to many especially with talks of a rematch taking place with Mauricio Herrera but Castillo was actually not to far down the list.
“It was Judah and Herrera as his first options but they turned the fight down and my dad was the 3rd option from them.”
Castillo Jr. believes a win for his father would do wonders for his career and silence many of the critics.
“[A win] will take him to the big names again. Everyone thinks that Provodnikov is too much and beating him in his hometown would be huge. For me, well it would be an honor watching my father rise again above all those critics and bad comments .”
