Javier Fortuna is one of the few fighters around today that has some of the worst luck. Fights get made, then they get canceled. Fortuna was set to have one of the biggest fights in his career against Ryan Garcia but Garcia pulled out due to mental health issues leaving Fortuna without a dance partner.
Joseph Diaz Jr. is more than eager to fill the void that Garcia left behind. Diaz took to social media today to express his interest in fighting Fortuna.
“Told Golden Boy, Roberto Diaz, MTK Global that I’ll step in and fight Fortuna. Y’all wanna see it?”
Diaz won his first world title against Tevin Farmer in early 2020 but lost the title on the scales in his next fight. Diaz was not himself in that fight and got a majority draw.
A move up in weight may do the Southern California native some good, and if he is able to get a win over Fortuna it would put him in line for big fights.
