This Saturday Marisol “Coronita” Corona is set for an all Mexican showdown against one of the best fighters, some may even say a legend in the women’s division to come out of Mexico, Jackie Nava. The fight came as a surprise to Corona who had not fought since 2019. She was offered the fight and agreed to it but ended up finding out the fight being confirmed through social media.
“It was a surprise for me when they asked me ‘do you want to fight,’ Corona told ThaBoxongVoice. “I said yes [and they said] ‘ok, I’ll let you know.’ And then I got a notification on social media that said Marisol Corona vs. Jackie Nava. I was stunned.”
Corona has had about two months to prepare which she feels is enough to get the victory.
“I have been training for almost two months and I’m sure we are going to win. I have great respect and admiration [for Nava]. I know that it’s taken a lot in my career to prepare me to fight with great legends.”
Corona’s last fight took place in Canada against world champion Jelena Mrdjenovich. It was a blood and guys war which had Mrdjenovich’s hometown crowd split on who the winner of the bout was with many fans booing the outcome of the fight.
“In an image, she (Mrdjenovich)reflects defeat and the people knew the difference. It is difficult to get a decision against someone in their home and that’s that as we say here in Mexico the dead man and the unwanted start to stink after three days. It’s a fact that I only lost one round but we were at someone else’s home and we should not leave anything to the cards. The fans showed how they felt with the verdict is and unlike the cards, it can’t be tampered with.”
