Leo Santa CruzMay 2nd, 2015 will be known as one of the biggest, if not the biggest day in boxing history when Floyd Mayweather Jr. takes on Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main event needs no help selling tickets and with a the less-than-stellar undercard in place, I have been finding it hard to get excited for the other fights. That is, until I heard that Leo Santa Cruz was going to be on the card. With consistently entertaining fights, Santa Cruz has not disappointed me yet, so I expect the action void to be filled, but who will he be facing?

There are a few names out there for Santa Cruz that would be worth pitting him against on such a major attraction . A fight with Guillermo Rigondeaux would be a great battle between champions but that’s not likely to happen anytime soon.

Another option that would make a terrific fight is former world champion Abner Mares. Mares is currently on vacation but if the opportunity was presented to him to fight Santa Cruz on short notice he would be more than willing to take it.

“I heard that Leo Santa Cruz wants to fight on May 2nd and does not have an opponent,” said Mares. “Well, I can fight him in three weeks. I’m on vacation right now but that’s all [the time] I’ll need.”
