2014 Boxcino Middleweight Champion Willie Monroe has a new foe on his ESPN 2 date on January 16th. Monroe (18-1, 6 KOs) was originally supposed to face undefeated Antione Douglas (16-0-1, 10 KOs) but the fight was never made official and Douglas took on another fight.
Monroe will now face rugged Bryan Vera (23-9, 14 KOs).
Vera hasn’t fought in a traditional boxing ring since he lost to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr this past March. He fought Gabriel Rosado and was stopped in the BKB Pit.
The fight is signed and will take place in upstate New York’s Turning Stone Casino. Peter Petrov who also won the Boxcino Lightweight Tournament in 2014 is on the card, although an opponent has not been named.
