Jelena MrdjenovichThroughout the ages, there have been many slugfests in boxing that have left fans talking about what transpired even if decades have passed.

In the men’s divisions, there are numerous toe-to-toe battles that have left an imprint in our memories, but few have done so from the women’s division due to the lack of attention female boxing receives.

That may all change soon, and one of those fights that can make that happen is signed and set to happen on July 31st in Argentina when six-time women’s world champion Jelena Mrdjenovich takes on Edith Soledad Matthysse.

Mrdjenovich believes that the matchup is a good one do to her style of always going for the kill and the style that Edith and her family fight with.

“Stylistically, me and her match up very well,” Mrdjenovich told the Edmonton Journal. “We all know that I love the active fights. I love going for the knockout and I kind of get frustrated when fighters run. Edith is like that as well, and I know it is going to be an exciting fight in Argentina.”

In her last fight, Mrdjenovich traveled to Panama to defend her WBC featherweight title against Francia Bravo and won via ninth-round TKO.

Matthysse last fought in May against Lizbeth Crespo and won an eight-round unanimous decision.

The bout between Mrdjwnovich and Matthysse is scheduled for ten, two-minute rounds and is to unify the WBC and WBA women’s featherweight championship.
