No Love for Wladimir Klitschko?

Saturday May 4th is a busy day in the boxing world. Especially in North America where fans will be tuning in to the PPV card being headlined by Floyd Mayweather and Robert Guerrero but other events are taking a backseat or getting almost no press at all. One of those matches features heavyweight kingpin Wladimir Klitschko.

Wladimir will be taking on undefeated heavyweight fighter Francesco Pianeta from Italy in what I view as a good match. There will literally be two giants in the ring as Pianeta is only one inch shorter than Wladimir and even though his KO ratio isn’t as great as the champs he can still put up a fight.

For Wladimir, this will mark his 63rd fight as a professional. The guy has not lost a fight since 2004, holds multiple titles, and sells out arenas. So why does he not get the attention that he deserves?

If Wladimir was an American heavyweight with the accomplishments that he has, then the “May Day” event would more than likely take a backseat to his fight. The fact that the fighter people want to see him fight will never happen because he and his brother do not want to upset their mother is no excuse to shun them away. The fact that he is dominant and there isn’t really any other heavyweight talent that comes close to Wladimir or even Vitali, is no excuse to not show their fights. Some may find the fights boring but that is speaking like a casual fan. Wladimir is a great boxer who knows how to keep his opponents at bay while smashing them with monstrous shots.

The bottom line is that he deserves the appreciation of a champion and even though there is a bigger event taking place the same day, it does not mean that other talent should be ignored.
