Swedish Olympian Anthony Yigit (14-0-1, 6 KO’s) continues his European title charge on September 19 when he takes on former French Champion Chaquib Fadli (13-4, 7 KO’s) at Rosvalla Stora Ishallen at the Nyköpings Arenor in Nyköping, Sweden.
Yigit, one of the standout stars of Team Sauerland’s Nordic Fight Night series, brings his explosive style back to Sweden for the first time as a professional, joining IBF Intercontinental light-heavyweight champion Erik Skoglund and IBF Female light-welterweight title challenger Klara Svensson in a historic night for Swedish boxing.
Ahead of his Swedish debut, the 23-year-old light welterweight has revealed his delight at fighting in front of his home fans.
“Representing Sweden at the London 2012 Olympics was one of the greatest achievements of my career,’’ said Yigit. “And I’m proud to continue to represent Sweden as a pro. To get the opportunity to fight at home means everything to me. I’m going to train harder than ever and deliver the best possible performance for the Swedish fans!’’
The highly regarded southpaw has proved his pedigree with recent victories over the previously unbeaten Kim Poulsen and Timo Schwarzkopf. Against Fadli, the Stockholm fighter faces another tough test as he strives for European success.
‘’I’ve been pleased with my development, but of course, there is always room for improvement,’’ said Yigit. ‘’I won’t be satisfied until I’m world champion! However, the European title comes first, and on September 19, I will take my next steps towards achieving this dream.
‘’Fadli is a tough opponent with an unorthodox style. He has a lot of experience, fighting for titles against good opposition, so this will be a good test for me, but I’m confident I will win. This is a chance for me to make my mark on the European light welterweight division, and by beating Fadli, I’ll prove I belong with the best!’’
‘’Anthony is a special talent,’’ said promoter Nisse Sauerland. ‘’Many Swedes will remember him from the London Olympics, where he narrowly missed out on a place in the quarterfinals, losing by a single point to the eventual silver medalist. Since turning pro, he has more than lived up to his amateur billing and is currently one of Europe’s brightest boxing prospects.
‘’On September 19, he takes another step forward, facing Fadli, an experienced European campaigner, who recently challenged for EBU-EU title. If Anthony comes through this test, we will know he is ready and look to deliver him a shot at the European Light Welterweight title later this year.’’
