On July 27th boxing fans were treated to a brutal war between two fighters who gave and took a lot from each other in the ring when Omar Figueroa and Nihito Arakawa fought for the WBC interim lightweight title.

Figueroa hurt his hands early in the fight but that did not seem to slow him down as it appeared throughout many different times during the fight that he would get a stoppage victory over Nihito. Nihito stood his ground and put Figueroa to the test and had Nihito of been a bigger puncher, Figueroa would have been in danger. It was a great test for both fighters and a learning experience for Figueroa.

“It was different from what I expected,” said Figueroa. “You can’t really prepare for something like that but I knew I had it in me to do that. The fans liked it, I don’t see anything wrong with it.”

Figueroa’s hands are continuing to bother him but that has not stopped negotiations between him and Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz for an all out Texas brawl.

The fight may happen but there seems to be some hesitation from Diaz according to a close source from the Figueroa camp. Does that bother Figueroa? Not at all.

“I don’t mind. Like I said before that’s not my job. My job is to prepare for a fight and give it my all. That’s my dad’s, Al Haymon’s, Golden Boy’s job . I trust them with everything so if they want to get me a fight with “Baby Bull” Diaz I’ll do it. I’ll go for “Baby Bull” Diaz. If they think I am ready for Mayweather I will go for Mayweather. I don’t care. He is not ready to give up the torch so if push comes to shove I am going to have to take it from him.”
