In his sixth professional bout, unbeaten prospect Sean Garcia (6-0, 2 KOs) defeated Rene Marquez (5-6, 2 KOs) of Scottsbluff, Nebraska in a 4-round lightweight contest.
Garcia controlled the fight early as he aggressively boxed at midrange and worked off the 1-2, with many attempted right hooks. However, as the fight wore on Marquez utilized his small stature and awkward style to close the distance and take Garcia out of his comfort zone. Round 3 was indicative of the rough and tough style of Marquez as he swarmed Garcia and landed an onslaught of punches.
Fortunately for the Garcia family, Sean was able to weather the storm and continue his unbeaten record.
Sean’s victory will surely boost the morale of big brother Ryan Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) as he is set to face the biggest challenge of his career in Luke Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs). With a victory over Campbell, Ryan will earn the respect of hardcore fans and propel himself to possible matchups with Devin Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) and Gervonta Davis (24-0, 23 KOs).
