Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan is one of the big fights coming in 2016, amongst its announcement the fight was met with mix reviews. A big fight because of the names but scrutiny towards Alvarez for potentially cherry picking a fighter in a lower weight class to move up in weight just to fight him, so Alvarez carries all the advantages coming into the fight. Although not the consensus amongst the boxing community it seems to be a lot of insiders believe this to be an easy night for Alvarez.
Thaboxingvoice talked with Shawn Porter while waiting on his date with WBA welterweight titlist Keith Thurman and fresh off his innovative exhibition match against Lanardo Tyner he broke down Canelo Khan for us.
“I think Canelo-Khan is a good fight, it’s definitely a big fight but I think it’s going to be a good fight, I think he (Amir Khan) is going to be stronger than ever.” Shawn continued his opinion on Amir’s chances saying, “When you don’t have to worry about losing weight you can focus on other things like gaining muscle or putting more effort into your game plan that makes it much easier. I definitely think this will be a much better fight than most people think.”
Shawn Porter made great points on why this can be a good fight but the majority most likely peg this fight as a mismatch despite all the interest the fight has garnered since its announcement. Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan will be going down May 7th on HBO all the major questions will be answered on fight night.
Till then, we truly just don’t know how these two will match up, a lot of people are predicting an easy night for Alvarez due to the fact that Amir is smaller and has a susceptible chin that has put him in trouble in plenty of his fights. We can all agree that due to those characteristics it’s an uphill battle to climb for Amir but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. This is boxing and anything can happen
