The first annual “Year in Review” show for PBC is minutes away (9PM ET) and already there is much buzz about what to expect from the show, specifically from welterweight Keith Thurman. Thurman is in studio for the end of the year show and he tweeted from his official Twitter account claiming that he has a message for all of his fans tonight on the #BestOfPBC2015.
The assumption is that Thurman will announce the long-awaited, and somewhat expected, showdown between Thurman and Porter, a fight that has been speculated for quite some time. In fact, many insiders figured the fight would take place December 12th in Texas, but it never came to fruition.
Some boxing insiders have reported that there was a snag in negotiations, specially involving a rematch clause being demanded by one side or the other.
What makes this announcement even more likely is the fact that during last night’s PBConSpike broadcast, the commentator mentioned a USA TODAY article speculating on a potential Thurman-Porter matchup, this after the camera focused on Shawn Porter who was in attendance with his father for the TMT promoted bout featuring Rances Barthelemy.
With Thurman in studio, you have to assume that PBC will want to capitalize off of such a prominent position, ending the first year of PBC by announcing the most significant fight for next year. It will seem like a celebration. Also, Thurman has been missing in the media as of late. He drew the attention of many fans for the simple fact that he was almost avoiding attention completely. The lack of presence has really fueled suspicions.
