Paul Spadafora is hoping to take the next step in his ambitions to be cream of the crop in the Junior Welterweight division, when he takes on Solomon Egberime, at the Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort inWest Virginiathis weekend.

‘The Pittsburgh Kid’ Spadafora (46-0-1, 19 Kos) will be trying to make these steps quickly, as he approaches the twilight of a career famously marred and delayed with issues both in and out of the ring.

He is angling for the big fights he feels he deserves and against the credible Egberime (22-3-1, 11KOs) he will have the platform to showcase his credentials.

In his last fight, after a near 2 year hiatus, Spadafora looked impressive in lopsided 8 round decision victory over Humberto Toledo. It was a flashback to the days of being the long time undefeated IBF Lightweight titlist, on the brink of superstardom. His Ring generalship, defense and effective body shots were all on display, with the addition of more powerful and effective power shots. Even at an advanced age, Spadafora is improving, this fight will gauge if he has the potential to mix it with the best.

Egberime goes into the fight as a relative unknown; this fight will be his debut onUSsoil.

Observing some of his fights he looks to be an athletic, multi tooled fighter and being a former Olympian should have decent boxing skills.

This is seen as a credible match-up for Spadafora, but one that he is expected to come through comfortably maneuvering towards a title shot sooner rather than later.

Should he win Spadafora may be angling himself for a fight with Paulie Malignaggi, recently calling Malignaggi out. A matchup between two Italians would seemingly fight right in to the grand scheme of things with the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. With Hatton’s loss last weekend, Malignaggi is looking for another opponent next year, and Spadafora may be it.
