The state of the heavyweight division in the United States has been severely lacking with most of the titles and talent being across the Atlantic in Europe. The last meaningful heavyweight fight that took place on the HBO airwaves was a unification bout between the heavyweight champion of the world, Wladimir Klitschko and WBA title holder, David Haye. The fight had plenty of prefight build up but didn’t live up to expectations inside the ring. The only other thing most boxing fans left with on that night was the jokes made about David Haye and his injured toe.

Tyson Fury hopes to wash away those thoughts for most American boxing fans when he makes his debut here in the states on April 20th, against Steve Cunningham.

When the reports came out that David Haye was coming out of retirement and is eyeing a few heavyweights like Fury en route to a possible Klitschko clash, Fury never one to hold his tongue, had a few choice words for Haye.

“David Haye, we made an offer, but he made it clear he doesn’t want to fight anyone but a Klitschko. But then the other day he made some news in the UK saying he wants to be the mandatory for Vitali. Where does this guy justify what he’s saying? He beat up a journeyman in (Derek) Chisora. He’s been beat up and embarrassed by the brother Wladimir and now he wants to fight Vitali, who’s old and finished,” Fury told ThaBoxingVoice.com.

Fury feels Haye should earn a fight with the Klitschkos but should be going after Wladimir and not Vitali.

“David Haye, the hero from Britain wants to fight him (Vitali), If David Haye has the heart he says he has, why doesn’t he go for the rematch with the guy that beat him (Wladimir)? Why does he go and fight the one that’s finished his brother? You got to ask yourself those questions; because David Haye is a pussy, always has been and always will be.”

Since the fight with Haye may not be a real possibility and since Tyson has said he would have to become a mandatory for the Klitschkos if he was to ever fight them, it only left one more title holder in the heavyweight division in Alexander Povetkin. Povetkin holds the ‘regular’ WBA world title while Wladimir Klitschko holds the ‘super’ WBA world title.

Fury considers Povetkin a fraud who has already ducked him many of times and doesn’t see a fight with Povetkin ever happening.

“Do you really think Alexander Povetkin is going to fight me? We’ve offered him the fight about 10 times on 10 different dates. His promoter,  the Sauerland Brothers know me when I was in my early days in the gyms in Berlin smashing the likes of Helenius’ and Pianeta’s, all them stiff guys from Europe. They’d never risk their golden ticket on me,” explained Fury.

Fury also feels Povetkin has one foot out the door of the boxing game.

“He’s already talking about retirement and he’s got a paper title. So you know when you’re talking about retirement and you haven’t accomplished anything, you better get out because this fighting game isn’t for you.”

Fury is also plenty frustrated by the notion that it’s his fault that he has fought the type of opponents on his resume. He says the Klitschkos have turned him down along with Haye and Povetkin. He even proposed a fight with Tomasz Adamek to Main Events, Adamek’s former promoter.

“A fighting man means you’ll fight any man anytime, like me. Tomasz Adamek turned down a fight with me, many times. You can ask Kathy Duva of Main Events. You don’t want to know how many times they turned me down. They say I fight bums but who wants to fight me, nobody, so you got to take that into account also.”
