With the “exhibition” match coming up between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. anticipation continues to grow for many but changes have happened and, surprise, surprise, there is some controversy afoot.

In a recent release from Boxingscene.com, both Tyson and Jones discussed their displeasure with their bout having two-minute rounds instead of three-minute rounds.

“I’m sure they have their reasons for doing it. But you know, women fight for two minutes. But I guess the commission has a bigger influence than I do. I’m just happy that we’re doing it ” stated Tyson.

“I’m not happy at all,” stated Jones. “That’s for women. Why are we doing two-minute rounds? We’re two of the best to ever do it. Two minutes doesn’t do anything for me or him.”

While they might not agree with the with the round time there are a few big names from the women’s side that don’t agree with the misogyny and they would rather fight three minute rounds as well.

“[Mike and Roy], we don’t like fighting 2 minutes either. MEN made the rules not us. We may be women but that doesn’t give you a right to put us as second class fighters to down us on the rounds you all restricted us with,” stated Ava Knight. “We don’t like fighting 2 minutes either! Stop suppressing us. Men made the rules NOT US.”

Claressa Shields feels that if men spoke up then women could get equal treatment  as they should.

“I see I was included in this article. But I will say the stereotype that women can’t box 3-minute rds is a myth. We are 100% capable. Maybe if the men would advocate for us they wouldn’t be fighting 2-minute rds in this LEGENDARY exhibition.”

The last time a women’s fight had three minute rounds (as far I can remember) was when Seniesa Estrada and Marlen Esparza fought back in 2019.
