Brian Vera is scheduled to fight March 29th on ESPN Friday Night Fights against Donatas Bondoravas. Vera has rejuvenated his career over the past year and with the help of his trainer Ronnie Shields, Vera is now in a great position to capture middleweight gold.
Vera is coming off of a tremendous showing against Serhiy Dzinziruk, a fight in which Vera won by 10th round TKO. With that win, Vera was placed firmly in line for a shot at Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s WBA middleweight title.
Shields feels that Vera hasn’t just earned his shot at the title, he feels Vera has earned legitimate consideration for lifting the belt from Golovkin. Shields also mentioned that the WBA has set a time frame for Vera’s title shot; it is depended upon both Vera and Golovkin winning their next respective outings.
“Brian has the opportunity now to become the middleweight champion of the world,” Shields said. “We’ve been told already by the WBA that Brian is fighting March 29th on ESPN again and GGG is fighting March 30th in the South of France and if both of them win, by June they have to fight. My main focus right now is March 29th, and then we’ll think of “GGG” afterwards.”
