Last weekend Kid Galahad, real name Barry Awad went into the biggest fight of his career so far against fellow Brit Jazza Dickens for the British super-bantamweight title.Galahad came into the fight with an unbeaten record of 14-0 and had begun to show real glimpses of talent that had many of us excited. Aged just 23, Galahad possess great speed and flashy movement which can at times make him look a class above his opponents.

Dickens also came into the fight unbeaten with a record of 16-0 and was also building a formidable reputation for himself in the professional game following a good amateur career. As an amateur, Dickens won the senior ABA crown in 2010 and decided to turn professional rather than try and go to the Olympics. Aged just 22, this fight was really a top show from two, young unbeaten fighters looking to take their career to the next level. Many before the fight were backing Galahad to come through the fight including myself.

The fight began quite tentatively with both opponents looking to work out their opponent and not over commit too early. Dickens was the aggressor coming forward and looking to land the left-hook at every opportunity. In contrast, Galahad was timing his shots better but being less aggressive creating close rounds.

Both fighters had their moments of success with Galahad carrying his hands low in his usual flashy style. The lowering of the hands from Galahad was just encouraging Dickens to throw the left-hook even more. Coming into the middle rounds Galahad began to dominate using his superior boxing skills to greater effect. Dickens suffered a cut to the head which spurred Galahad on and lead to a really intriguing match-up.

The fight was really in the balance and either fighter could have gone on to claim the victory. Galahad was docked a point in the 9th for holding and hitting and that could have really made things interesting if the fight had gone the distance. The fight was to ended in the 10th with a brutal left from Galahad which left Dickens in no state to continue. It was a fantastic shot with real power and really showed the class of the young man.

Following the fight Galahad suggested that he would like to face other Brits Scott Quigg or Carl Frampton and that he would show either man up. It shows great ambition and confidence from Galahad to be aiming at such fighters. Quigg is fighting for a world title on the Haye v Fury undercard and Frampton is also on the verge of a world title shot. For me both Frampton and Quigg are slightly above Galahad at the moment and I think that it may be slightly too early for him.

There is the potential to make these fights in the future and for them to be massive fights but at the moment it is too early.
