His newfound partnership with Virgil Hunter proves to be a success. Khan’s aggression and defensive lapses continues to subside, thus making him a more problematic fighter for his adversaries. Khan’s utilization of his footwork, ability to establish range, and increase of defensive awareness has caught the attention of the Golden Boy President, Oscar De La Hoya.

In a recent interview with Tha Boxing Voice, De La Hoya explained, “What I noticed [about Amir Khan] is that he was centered. His feet were just planted on the canvas. He was very focused.”

Despite Khan’s rollercoaster career, he is still a relative young fighter at age 28. De La Hoya mentioned, “Khan hasn’t even hit his peak yet. I have always believed in him. Now that I’m looking out for his career, I have no doubt in my mind that he will become champion of the world one day.”

De La Hoya also believes Khan will give the two most popular active fighters in the world, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao a lot of problems. He stated, “I believe Khan will give a lot of problems to both Mayweather and Pacquiao. I believe that Khan has no problem against a southpaw and he demonstrated it against Collazo, Alexander, and Judah. I can’t wait to see him in the welterweight division with a righty. Wow he’s going to look spectacular. I don’t care if it’s with Mayweather or with anybody else, he’s going to look spectacular. In boxing when you face a southpaw it’s difficult, it makes you look awkward and subpar. Amir Khan is looking spectacular against southpaws. I can’t wait to see him against a right handed fighter in the welterweight division. This is the new and improved Amir Khan. And the improved Amir Khan is going to be dangerous for a lot of guys.”
