Kenny Anderson will face Robin Reid for the vacant British super middleweight title on the undercard of Kell Brook’s World title eliminator against Hector Saldivia on Betfair’s ‘This Is It’ bill on October 20 at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.
Anderson has been gunning for a major title shot after proposed bouts with George Groves hit the buffers on more than one occasion, but with belt now declared vacant by the British Boxing Board of Control, the 29 year old gets his first British title shot in his 19th fight.
For Reid it is a second shot at the British title five years after challenging Carl Froch for the belt in Nottingham in November 2007. ‘The Grim Reaper’ retired after that loss, but the former WBC champ returned to action in Prizefighter in March 2011 and goes into the clash with Anderson on the back of exciting stoppage wins over Wayne Reed and Daniel Cadman.
Anderson’s clash with Reid is the second top class support act added to the undercard, with Jamie McDonnell facing Vusi Malinga in an IBF bantamweight World title final eliminator.
“I’m delighted that Kenny has been given this opportunity,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s been a frustrating period waiting for the Groves fight but Kenny has remained focused and is ready to challenge for the title on October 20. People may write Robin off but he is coming off two impressive wins and is bang up for this.”
