When you speak of one of the most anticipated possible fights that could have occurred this year, it was the bout between Gennady Golovkin and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. A fight that at one point came out of left field and was said to be on the goal line close to the end zone, is all but dead. Gennady Golovkin and has side had already agreed upon a set deal weeks ago and were just waiting on Chavez to sign. Then things got complicated as Chavez was not happy with the offer he received from his promoter, Top Rank.

ThaBoxingVoice.com spoke with Bob Arum as he broke down what his side offered Chavez Jr.

“Our contract with Chavez Jr runs until the end of October 2015. So we wanted to do two fights in that period, one against GGG where he would earn a minimum of 7 million. If he lost, it would be another fight with a minimum of 5 million. If he won, he would earn a minimum of 10 million in his next fight, and there would not be an extension in the expiration period, it would be the end of October,” explained Arum

However, According to Arum, Chavez wanted no part of doing more than one fight.

“He said no, he wanted to do one fight. So we offered him the same deal on one fight which was a lot less than if it was a two fight deal because we had no way to recoup. But it was the same deal that Golovkin had accepted, so it was a virtual real deal. Chavez was having none of it, so we’ll go on. Golovkin will fight someone in July and we’ll offer Chavez a fight in Golovkin.”

One fight that is happening this weekend that will have heavy interest weighed on it will be the bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado. Not only is it a big stakes cross roads fight, but there is a big fight against Manny Pacquiao waiting for the winner.

The numbers for Pacquiao-Bradley 2 were confirmed by Arum this week to be in the 750,000-800,000 buy rate range. Arum also stated that Pacquiao next fight will be in the fall, back in Macau. Now while Mike Alvarado will jump on the first flight out of Denver to Macau to fight Pacquiao, those in the industry are not keen on Marquez going to the Far East for his fifth encounter with his long-time rival.

Arum feels that he can definitely make Pacquiao-Marquez 5 in Macau because of the financial sense it makes.

“Juan Manuel To Macau? , I don’t see why not,” explained Arum. Because Nacho (Beristain)  is saying if Marquez fights Manny, he doesn’t want the fight to be in the United States because of the high income tax. What else could he thinking of other than Macau?”
