Andre-BertoThe big question leading up to the May 2nd mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is does Manny have a realistic chance at beating Mayweather? The assumption is Floyd will win, but there is a growing consensus that regardless of the outcome Floyd will be tested. This notion is based on the idea that Floyd has never faced anyone that possesses the athletic ability of the Filipino fighter.

It is a difficult debate to weigh in on because obviously Pacquiao is a rare athlete, but we can’t forget that Floyd’s career spans over decades and he has rarely been in any real trouble in a fight, and when he has been tested it has been against fighters that don’t possess high level athletic abilities.

Andre Berto sat down with Luis Sandoval in a video published on FightHype.com’s YouTube channel, and in the video Berto talks about the difficulty involved with choosing between Mayweather-Pacquiao. Berto contends that Mayweather has seen it all before, but the problem is with Floyd’s recent competition and how it stacks up with what he is currently faced with in Manny.

“I think Floyd has seen some of everything, but then again you know Manny is a certain type of athlete he hasn’t seen in a long time. When it comes to speed, power, and foot movement angles, and I don’t think [Floyd] has seen that in a long time. But Floyd is a master of adjusting, he’s a master of adapting to any type of style, so I’m excited to see how he’s going to handle Manny’s speed and power,” Berto told Sandoval.

Berto’s analysis of the fight is spot on, the problem is the tangibles that allow two different outcomes.

“Floyd could easily make this shit look easy, or we’re going to see that Manny Pacquiao that everybody been waiting on to give Floyd tremendous problems and probably do some things to Floyd that nobody else has. That’s what makes this fight so exciting.”

It is conceivable to think that Floyd will have no trouble and make this fight look like all his others. However, even if Floyd is victorious it doesn’t mean that he won’t have issues at some point. Rooting for Manny is the same as rooting for a terrific fight because the more boring the fight the better off Floyd will be in the fight.
