Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios will be a guest on Thaboxingvoice.com’s radio show today. Rios is 2 weeks away from his much anticipated showdown with hardnosed Mike “Mile High” Alvarado. The bout will serve as the co-main event of HBO’s Boxing After Dark card which features a junior featherweight title fight between Nonito Donaire and Toshiaki Nishioka — live from Carson, California. Most insiders expect Rios-Alvarado to be a potential “Fight of the Year” candidate, and rightfully so. Based on their styles and willingness to exchange, expecting anything less than a war would be foolish. Not to mention the fact that both fighters have been in tremendous fights throughout their respective careers. Rios will be moving up from lightweight (135lbs) to junior welterweight (140lbs), but it shouldn’t be too much of a factor in the fight because Rios has missed weight in his last 2 fights, suggesting that he may have already been physically prepared for this move up in weight.

WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria will also be a guest on today’s show. Viloria will be meeting WBA flyweight champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez in unification title fight. The fight has been twice postponed from its original date of September 29th to November 10th to its new date November 17th. The fight will take place at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. The fight is a very meaningful one in an often overlooked division. The flyweight division usually produces some of the best fights in a given year and Viloria-Marquez is a particularly interesting one that most hardcore fans are looking forward to.
