Cecilia Brækhus has had a 14-year career as a pro. The first 13 years of her career were great as she stacked up wins against some of the biggest names in women’s boxing and remained undefeated. That all changed in August of 2020.

Brækhus suffered the first defeat of her career against Jessica McCaskill which sent shockwaves throughout women’s boxing. Seven months later the rematch happened and McCaskill proved to the world it was no fluke and she won a very convincing unanimous decision. Was it meant to be or were there obstacles Brækhus had to overcome and it drained her?

Brækhus was asked on social media if there was any truth to a rumor that she would move up in weight to 154 pounds and it’s not farfetched.

“[I] never fought McCaskill at the welterweight limit [of] 147 but was asked to move down to 145 [for] both fights. That was a struggle so 154 is a possibility!”

If the move up does happen the best fight there for her is against Claressa Shields. Shields has wanted the fight with Brækhus in the past but with no titles and no undefeated record does the motivation for that fight remain?
