Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is now with Al Haymon and he expects a return date on either February 28 or March 7th. A source told EspnDeportes that three possible opponents for his return date could be Carl Froch, Anthony Dirrell, or Bernard Hopkins.
A fight with Dirrell would make sense as both are advised by Al Haymon. A fight with Froch would be Pay-Per-View and huge in Las Vegas. Bernard Hopkins is also a major fight but we do not know if Hopkins would remain active after his defeat to Sergey Kovalev, plus that fight would have to take place at 175, not at 168.
Chavez told ESPN Deportes, “ What I’ve been told that there are negotiations for Carl Froch and he is the first possibility. If we do come to an agreement the fight would be February 28th or the first Saturday in March, we should know in the next coming days.”
If a deal can’t be worked out Chavez stated, “There are other names, possibly Bernard Hopkins at 168 or Anthony Dirrell, the WBC champion but news will come out soon.”
