Manager Fernando Beltran has confirmed Former WBC Middleweight Champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-1 36 KOs) will take on Brian Vera (23-6 14 KOs) on September 7th. The fight was once rumored to be held in Mexico City, but now will be hosted at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Chavez is coming off his biggest fight to date; a loss to current Ring, Lineal, and WBC Middleweight Champion Sergio Martinez. Chavez Jr. was out boxed and overmatched for most of the bout, but found success in the 12th round when he knocked Martinez down and almost out of the fight.

Vera is coming off a controversial win on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights against Donatas Bondorovas. Vera has not performed well in top level fights leading many to believe this fight is nothing more than a showcase fight for Chavez. Should Chavez get past Vera, future bouts could include facing Super Middleweight Champion Andre Ward and a re-match with Sergio Martinez.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer has talked about a possible showdown between Lucas Matthysse and Danny Garcia at Dodger Stadium that same night on September 7th. It’s unclear if Chavez’ fight will disrupt Golden Boy’s plans for that fight or we might see a Golden Boy vs Top Rank battle for Los Angeles. Either way, on September 7th there will be a fight in Los Angeles.
