Just a couple weeks ago Claressa Shields made her MMA debut against Brittany Elkins. It could have been disastrous and it seemed that way the first two rounds as the more experienced Elkins controlled the fight in the first two rounds. In the third round Shields was able to bounce back and stop Elkins.
It was a great win for Shields even though it was against a lesser opponent. No, that was not a dig at Shields. When someone steps into the boxing ring for the first time they are usually matched with someone that will test them and determine whether they should be competing and that’s exactly what Shields got. We saw her strengths and her weaknesses and most important of all she experienced that and knows what she needs to work on and I’m pretty sure she is doing that right now.
Shields had stated that she would fight again for the PFL and luckily for her she did not suffer any injuries of significance because her next fight date has been announced.
Shields will return to the cage on Aug. 27 at Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. Her opponent though is yet to be determined.
