“It’s a big fight for him, not me it’s just another day in the ring, another title fight for me; it’s my fourth title defense. I feel great, I sparred 4 different people. I’m in great shape, my timing is great, and I’m ready to go,” said a very confident Danny Garcia speaking on his big fight with Lucas Matthysse on TheOne Pay-Per-View, when he stopped by ThaBoxingVoice Radio Show last weekend.

From the talk on social media and the delay in this fight being signed, the talk was out there that Danny Garcia was not interested in fighting the big puncher from Argentina. Garcia was ringside when Matthysse demolished Lamont Peterson and his facial expression on the ShowTime telecast was criticized by some. But according to Garcia, this was the fight he wanted.

“I had been agreed to the fight when they first asked for it. It’s a big fight and big fights don’t get made over night. Of course, there are a lot of negotiations that go on. We had to get a place, where and when. The drug testing wasn’t even an issue. Every time you fight for my title, you have to take the drug test; it’s not just Lucas Matthysse. I had been taking the test. Morales took it the second time, Zab Judah and Amir Khan took it.”

The testing had long been a rumor as to why this fight was not signed earlier. Garcia states that he’s not at all worried about the testing and it was more of his father and trainer, Angel Garcia who was involved with that part of the fight.

“I already been tested twice and from what I know, we get tested at the same time. It’s impossible for me to get twice and he gets testing none. It got to be in the budget for him to fly out there to Argentina or someone from there to test him. I really don’t care, with the testing or not I still believe I kick his ass. My pops wanted it; it’s getting done, no matter what the outcome is, we still going to kick his ass.”

In his fight with Erik Morales the 2nd time around in Brooklyn, Morales had tested positive for a banned substance but Garcia and his team decided to fight on. While at his open workout, Garcia and his dad stated that if that happens this time around, there won’t be a fight if Matthysse tests positive for something but he expects the process to be done right.

“When you paying money, they better do it right or I want to get in a refund,” Garcia joked.

Come September 14th, there won’t be any joking around as the consensus two best 140lbers will face off. Both guys have shown knockout power and durability. On September 14th Garcia says Matthysse will be in with a guy that could punch back and feels he hasn’t fared well with fighters that do.

“To be honest I don’t know (about his chin), we’ll have to see September 14th. We’re two big punchers; it’s going to be an explosive fight. In the championship level of boxing, you’re going to get hit back, just a matter of how you take it and how you give it too. He has a lot of knockouts but they’re mostly all in Argentina. I’m not taking anything away from him, he has power, he’s a good fighter but he’s had 6 fights here and he’s lost the 2 with two guys that hit him back.”
