Gavin Rees Confident Despite Being A Heavy Underdog Against Broner

Gavin Rees is fired up for his WBC World lightweight title clash with Adrien Broner in Atlantic City live on Sky Sports on Saturday February 16.

Rees came face-to-face with Broner for the first time at a press conference in downtown New York today and the confident American and the pair traded insults before they were grilled by the media.

“He’s got all the mouth let’s see if he can back it up,” said Rees. “It’s just a normal fight to me to be honest, it’s just a ring. I’ve been over to Paris and won so fighting away from home doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

“He’s pretty cocky and I think he underestimates me. The game plan we’ve got is right and I’m confident in my own ability, he expects me to just come running in head first but he’ll have a shock on the night, a lot of people will.”

Saturday night represents a chance for Rees to become a two-weight World champion and his promoter Eddie Hearn believes that the Welshman can stun the world of boxing at the Boardwalk Hall and make a mockery of his outsider status.

“It’s a huge opportunity for Gavin and one he was delighted to get,” said Hearn. “Adrien is a great champion and it’s going to be a great fight. Gavin has been written off and some of the odds have been insulting frankly. We’re here to win and not to make up the numbers; Gavin deserves a hell of a lot more respect than he’s been getting and we’re confident that he will cause a massive shock.”
