Floyd Mayweather - Amir KhanVirgil Hunter was in a precarious position when it came to the announcement of Floyd Mayweather Jr. picking Andre Berto for his fight in September. Hunter trains Andre Berto and Amir Khan. For about two to three years, Khan has lobbied for the Mayweather fight. Mayweather picked Marcos Maidana twice over Khan and then went on to fight Manny Pacquiao.

And again Khan was left at the alter again with Mayweather choosing his stable mate.

Hunter feels for Khan and felt he deserved the fight.

“I didn’t know who was going to get the fight,” Hunter said in regards to his two fighters. “Until it is said and done we don’t know, then you move on it. I know Amir wanted the fight very bad and he deserved the fight, just as much as anybody else. Why it didn’t happen that way, I have no answers. If he stays on track like he’s supposed to, he can set his own legacy if he never gets the fight.”

Being in the middle of it, Hunter had a role in letting down one of his fighters and trying to prepare the other for the biggest fight of his life.

“Of course I feel for him and if it was the other way around I’d feel for Berto,” stated Hunter. “I’m in the middle of it, I care for both fighters but you feel for them. But we move on and one sets its own legacy. It’s not a comfortable position for me to be in but you have to move. I’m glad I didn’t have to make the selection because you ok one and you down the other.

Hunter doesn’t know why has chosen over the other but now will ready Berto for his shot at greatness.

“I think each fighter brings their own dimension to the fight. Each fighters brings their quality top the fight. So for whatever reason he picked Berto.
