Last week the IBF ordered George Groves (19-0 15 KOs) to take on his fellow countrymen and current Super Middleweight Champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (31-2 22KOs). Groves has been named by the IBF as the mandatory challenger for the title.  Froch does have the option to relinquish the belt and continue to search for the more lucrative fight he wants rematching Andre Ward. Froch indicated that he is interested in the Groves fight and he is willing to defend the IBF title.

Groves at one time was a sparring partner for Froch, so they are familiar with each other. Froch has been looking for a fight since his win over Mikkel Kessler in May. If both fighter agree, the fight will likely take place in England, where both fighter are from. Eddie Hearns who promotes both Groves and Froch feels confident that a deal can be reached to make the fight.

This fight for Groves will be a major step up in opposition, and fans will see what skills the undefeated fighter possesses.  For Froch, Groves would not be a recycled name but a new name he can add to his already extensive resume.  Lets hope this fight is signed, with Fury vs Haye happening in September, this fight would be a great addition to end the year in UK Boxing.
