News broke over the weekend of 18 year old boxer Jeanette Zacarias Zapata of Mexico that suffered horrific injuries in her fight that took place in Montreal. Towards the end of the 4th round Zapata got hit with a series of punches which left her convulsing while standing up in the ring. The match was immediately called off and she was rushed to a hospital.
Zapata was placed in a medically induced coma and things seemed grim. Yvon Michel came out after some time stating that Zapata seemed to be improving but things took a turn for the worse and Zapata passed away at 3:45 P.M. on September 2nd.
It’s a tragedy that happens in this sport. This young lady just reached adulthood and had a bright future ahead of her whether it was in a boxing ring or not.
There was a Go Fund Me (see link at the top of this article) that was set up to help with medical costs and as well for the family of Zapata. There were plenty of donations in hopes that she would get better but now her family could use whatever you can spare to get her home and cover the cost of a funeral.
