London (7 February) Kid Galahad will challenge Sergio Prado for the vacant European super bantamweight title with home crowd advantage at Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield, on March 22nd, live on Channel 5.

The undefeated Ingle trained former WBC International and British super bantamweight champion, Galahad, says “it doesn’t matter who it is” as he bids to add the famous belt to his name and move towards the world level.

“The European title is just another stepping stone,” Galahad said.

“It’s a good title to have but it’s just another step – Naseem Hamed had that same title, Frampton had it, Rendall Munroe had it – all quality fighters have held that belt.

“I want to clean up domestically, get the European and then get myself onto the world level – by the time I get there, in two or three fights, I’ll be 100 percent ready.”

Galahad comes into the contest with real momentum, having emphatically stopped the previously unbeaten English champion Jazza Dickens in his last contest.

The 23-year-old Qatar born Sheffield fighter extended his unblemished record to 15 wins, by producing a stunning 10th round knockout over the Liverpudlian to win the famous Lonsdale belt and is determined to continue his ascent towards the very top.

But Prado will be looking to spoil any such progress.

The 31-year-old former Spanish champion is the current EBU-EU champion and will be coming to the United Kingdom for nothing less than a victory in Galahad’s backyard.

However, Galahad, who has won his last four contests by knockout, is uncompromising in his preparations and confident he will produce another memorable night for his Yorkshire fans.

“I’ve seen one or two clips of Prado and he looks like a decent kid, he can come forward, he’s strong, he can box and he’s there to win,” Galahad said.

“But, it really doesn’t matter who it is – you can’t take anybody lightly, you’ve got to train like it’s your last fight and that’s how champions are made.

“The day you underestimate any fighter is the day you’ll get beat and March 22nd is going to be no different.

“I’m in good shape, I’ve been ticking over since my last fight and I feel fantastic – I can’t wait.”

Having won the purse bid to stage the contest, Hennessy Sports are delighted to bring Galahad back to Yorkshire.

“Barry is a fantastic talent and I truly believe he is the future of the super bantamweight division,” Promoter Mick Hennessy said.

“I believe Barry is destined for big things and this is another step for a great fighter.”

Also scheduled to fight on the show is a whole host of talent, including former WBC world light welterweight champion Junior Witter, Sam O’maison, Tom Mcassey, Atif Shafiq, Karl Bell, David Howe and Callum Hancock.
