Mairis Briedis (14-0, 11 KOs), the undefeated cruiserweight from Riga, Latvia, has just signed a co-promotional agreement with Main Events. Mairis Briedis is currently promoted overseas by J.C. Courreges’ Biggers Better Boxing; the co-promotion will cover all of Briedis’ US and Canadian fights.
The 30-year old Briedis is the current International Boxing Association Cruiserweight and WBC Baltic Cruiserweight Champions and undefeated in 14 professional fights. After making his professional debut back in 2009, he knocked out his next eight opponents in a row over the span of three years.
In his last fight, he defeated Ismail Abdoul via a 12-round unanimous decision. This Friday he will take on Bjoern Blaschke in Dortelweil, Hessen, Germany. The undefeated Briedis said, “I’m very happy to be joining Main Events, and I truly believe that this will be a turning point in my career. I appreciate that Ms. Kathy Duva and Main Events have believed in me and are ready to give me a platform to reach my highest goals of becoming the world champion. I’m looking forward to introducing myself to the American boxing world and show how tough Latvians can be in the boxing ring!”
Courreges added, “Mairis Briedis is an exceptional talent, and we are thankful to Kathy Duva for giving us the opportunity to prove ourselves in the USA and hopefully becoming world champion in a very near future.”
Hall of Fame referee Steve Smoger had this to say about the signing, “I’ve had the pleasure of refereeing Mairis Briedis. He’s a highly skilled and world class fighter. I’m happy that he’s coming to the USA!”
Kathy Duva is excited to add another cruiserweight to her stable. She said, “Mairis Briedis is a very promising cruiserweight prospect. I’m looking forward to seeing him in the ring this weekend on Eurosport then bringing him to the United States.”
