According to Florida law, if an individual possesses 28 grams or more, but less than 200 grams of methamphetamine, such person shall be sentenced to a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of seven years, and the defendant shall be ordered to pay a fine of $100,000.

Tony Morgan, the trainer to Willie Monroe Jr., who faces Gennady Golovkin on May 16, was arrested yesterday evening after undercover police officers purchased four ounces of methamphetamines from him, which is valued at $6,400.

According to the Tampa Tribune, Morgan, 43, was charged with trafficking 28 grams of meth, maintaining a vehicle for drug trafficking and possession of paraphernalia.

Morgan, who previously worked with former welterweight titlist Andre Berto, was arrested without incident and was booked into Polk County Jail.

Detectives had arranged to meet Morgan in a public parking lot to purchase 10 ounces of meth worth $10,000, but the Tribune reported that he only arrived with four ounces, which was packaged in a plastic bag and inside a disposable cup with a lid.

With just over a month, away before Willie Monroe Jr. steps into the ring to face Gennady Golovkin, it remains to be seen if Morgan’s absence will have any impact on Monroe’s preparation and performance.
