ThaBoxingVoice recently carried out an interview with pound for pound king Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather on his pending fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

There is so much excitement buzzing around this fight as the hugely popular young underdog Alvarez looks to beat the top boxer in the world Mayweather.

Alvarez is naturally a light-middleweight and Mayweather has fought at Welterweight in recent years. As a result there has been the need for compromise and the fight will take place at a catch-weight of 152 lbs.

The matter of weight was one mentioned in this interview with Mayweather believing that Alvarez will come into the fight on the night about 20 lbs heavier than the 152 lbs limit at the weight in. This has the potential to be a real issue for Mayweather as Alvarez will clearly be the bigger guy and could try to bully Mayweather around the ring.

Mayweather doesn’t seem to worried about this weight difference on the night stating that Arturo Gatti, Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto all came into the ring much heavier than himself and that he beat all of them. This is a very interesting point raised by Mayweather as undoubtedly he will look to use his speed and elusive footwork to avoid the bigger Alvarez and make him look slow.

Mayweather was questioned on his father’s view that the fight with Alvarez will be an easier fight for his son than his last fight with Robert Guerrero. Mayweather responded by saying that his father is one of the best trainers in the world and that they as a team look at their opponents weaknesses rather than their strengths. Mayweather said that his father has spotted many weaknesses inherent in Alvarez that can be exploited with relative ease.

I personally disagree that this fight will be easier than the Guerrero fight for Mayweather due to Alvarez’s size and power which has the potential to cause Mayweather real problems. I expect Mayweather to win this fight. I predict that he will once more show his class and superiority to any other boxer out there and win via a points decision.

Mayweather was also asked if this fight with Alvarez will satisfy those out there who criticise that Mayweather has never fought Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather was correct in saying that it would not satisfy these critics as even when he wins people will say that he had too much experience for Alvarez. This shows a certain level of bitterness and that he believes that he doesn’t get the level of credit and ovation that he feels he deserves. Despite this Mayweather seemed pragmatic in admitting that he cannot please everyone and that all he can do is go out there and keep on winning which he is expected to do every time he enters the ring.

Finally Mayweather talked about how he would love to box at Madison Square Garden which has to be the biggest stage of them all for any boxer.

The Mayweather v Alvarez fight is going to be huge and is really going to be an exciting match. The build up will be incredible with Alvarez’s huge support and youth going up against the seemingly invincible Floyd Mayweather.

I cannot wait for this fight and i’m sure you all feel the same.
