Within the past decade the boxing community has lost its share of fighters, trainers, commentators, writers, and historians to natural causes. But some of the best were taken away from us too early by other men and not by God. Within the past decade we lost such talents as Vernon Forrest, Arturo Gatti, Hector Camacho, Rafael Guzman and Alexis Arguello. On June 21st the boxing world lost another one of its talents and world champions due to violence outside the ring.

Former two time world champion Genaro Garcia (39-10, 23 KO’s) who was born in Buenaventura, Chihuahua, Mexico was found dead with four gunshots to the head and bruises from a severe beating to the body at approximately 12:30 P.M. behind a church in San Lorenzo.

Prior to his death Garcia was seen entering his vehicle and being chased by armed men in a grey Honda Odyssey to the community of Juan Tuxco where they were able to extract Garcia from his car and take him captive.
Garcia will be remembered as a great ring warrior and as a champion who has been described as a loving, caring person. Rest In Peace to a great man that lived violently in the ring for our entertainment and came to a tragic violent end outside of it.
