The Mayweather Gym… a place where hard work and dedication to the sport of boxing is key to being successful and making money. It is a gym where pros and amateurs alike learn and practice the key fundamentals of the sweet science.
Kevin Newman II ( @KevinNewman_II ) is a standout amateur protégé of the Mayweather Gym who has been around boxing his whole life. His mother bought him his first set of boxing gloves at the age of three and he would spend his time punching on walls and stuffed animals. At age five he was given a punching bag by his mother so that he would not have to punch the wall anymore.

As an amateur, Newman has had a total of 25 amateur fights and has only lost six. He has been fighting as an amateur since August of 2008 but has sit out about a total of two years due to injuries. Other than the fact that the Las Vegas amateur scene isn’t as big as California or New York there was issues when he was training at a different gym other than the Mayweather Gym. Newman plans on fighting at least twenty times more before making the transition from an amateur to a pro and with the work he is getting with the Mayweathers’ it looks to be a sure thing.

As far as the training at the Mayweather Gym goes, Newman has a vast variety to learn from. He has been training there for three years and has trained with all the Mayweathers’. ” Jeff is my main trainer. He started me and made me the fighter I am today. I have worked with both Floyd Sr. and Roger. The difference between them is Rogers’ type of mitt work is more for conditioning. Floyd Sr. is more boxing and working on throwing every punch correct in fast combinations and working on the shoulder roll. Both are two of the greatest trainers ever,” said Newman. As far as sparring goes…Newman receives practice with many of the top boxers in boxing today. “I have sparred with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Andre Dirrell, Mickey Bey, Chris Pearson, Luis Arias, Chris Eubank Jr. and a lot of outstanding local talent. I feel I do have a slight edge (over competition) because of the sparring I get at the gym with the top guys but I feel my work ethic and knowledge of the sport puts me steps ahead of my competition. With anything in life you need to work hard and dedicate yourself and I’m a fierce competitor. I always try to outwork the next man and push myself to the limit every day. ”

His future looks promising and he describes himself as a multi-talented fighter. “I can do it all. I’m very fast, I can box, counter punch, get really slick and 98% of the time I’m the smarter fighter in the ring with the exceptions of Floyd Mayweather of course and Andre Dirrell.” As an amateur he has done well and he seeks to make a splash as a pro and with Mayweather Promotions backing him the possibilities are endless. “My greatest accomplishment as an amateur was beating two top guys from both London and Canada.I plan to go pro at the end of this year after I win two tournaments, the PAL and the Ringside Worlds tournament. I tried out for the last Olympics lost by one point in the quarter finals on a bad decision but As long as I’m sharp there is no obstacle blocking me from turning pro. You can expect to see me in big fights in years to come and I will be a multi division world champion. Keep a close eye on me. I’m working extremely hard and will be on your television screen very soon making a lot of noise in the sport of boxing.”
