Miguel Flores 2A number of younger PBC fighters in the lower weight classes have had the opportunity to headline the main event of FS1’s Toe to Toe Tuesday series, and 23-year-old Miguel Flores is the next newly inaugurated “A-side” to get the call from the powers that be at PBC.

Flores will take on Mario Briones (27-4-2, 20 KOs) at the Cowboys Texas Dance Hall in San Antonio, Texas in a ten round super featherweight bout. Flores and Briones are both Mexican, however, Flores now resides in Houston, Texas.

With a perfect record thus far as a pro, Flores(18-0) has accumulated half of his wins by knockout (9 KOs), including an impressive second round knockout in his last fight on the undercard of a PBC on FS1 event.

Flores spoke with Thaboxingvoice.com earlier this week and seemed very focused and aware of the task at hand: another impressive performance can spell some big fights and possible title shots for Flores within the next couple of years.

Flores is not considered to be a big puncher, but he stated in said interview, “I love going to the body,” explaining how since he was a little kid he always admired the great fighters of his culture and absorbed the fact that they all went to the body often.

“All my body shots have come natural,” Flores said- a scary statement to hear for young 126 pounders such as Mario Barrios and Omar Douglas.

Flores has good size and reach for his weight division and has used that size nicely in his last two fights, scoring knockouts in both against the two toughest opponents he had faced thus far in his career.

Another interesting note about this fight is that Flores has never gone ten rounds, while his opponent, who is a veteran, has gone ten rounds or beyond a total of six times, so stamina and ability to carry power in the later rounds may become an issue in this fight.

Flores will look to prove that he is one of the bright young stars of the PBC, and his fight will be the unofficial start of boxing on American soil in what will hopefully be a great year for the sport.
