Last October Mikaela Mayer (14-0, 5 KO’s) faced the toughest test of her young career when she took on and defeated an undefeated Ewa Brodnicka for the WBO Super Featherweight Title. It was a much-needed test for Mayer who was being built up and needed to get to that next level. She easily handled Brodnicka, picking up a strap in the process, and now the level of competition should be nothing less of top ten fighters and that is what she is going to get in her next fight.

Mayer will fight on the undercard of Naoya Inoue – Michael Dasmarinas on ESPN on June 19th and the fight will serve as the co-main event. So who will Mayer fight? Erica Farias (26-4, 10 KO’s) of Argentina.

Farias is a hell of a fighter and definitely not a pushover. The only problem here is Farias has been inactive. Her last fight was in 2019 and she has lost three of her last five fights. Those losses came to Cecilia Braekhus and Jessica McCaskill so it’s not like she is a washed-up fighter that lost to up-and-coming fighters.

This fight will tell us a few things about both fighters. For Farias, it will show where she is at in her career. Is she nearing the end? Will the rust go away quickly and will she be able to deal with Mayer’s style? For Mayer, it will show what she is like against a legitimate former world champion that’s hungry to win another title. If the rust wears off for Farias early on and she comes on how will Mayer deal with that? If Mayer is able to stop Farias she will be the first fighter to do so as a professional and it would speak volumes to her as a fighter.

Overall this is a solid fight and should not be missed. These two will put on a hell of a performance for women’s boxing and we will see how the new school does against the old school.
