Saturday night November 10 at The Wynn Resort, Las Vegas, sees an exciting matchup between Miguel Angel ”Mikey” Garcia and tough Argentinean Jonathon Victor Barros. The bout will be televised by HBO and appears on the undercard of the light middleweight clash between Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan, and may well prove to be a hard night’s work for Garcia.
Mikey has been criticized, recently, for the quality of his opponents, particularly in his last few fights, where the quality was way below what you’d expect, from a fighter of his caliber. Things were set to change however, as Garcia was originally scheduled to fight WBO champ Orlando Salido. Due to a hand injury sustained in training, Salido pulled out, and the fight has been rescheduled for sometime in 2013 should Garcia win. This fight would have been a definite step up in class for Garcia, that’s not to say Saturday’s fight isn’t a step up, because it most surely is.
Barros comes to win and has never been stopped. The former WBA champ, is a tough very durable fighter, and has been in with some decent opposition with Celestino Caballero, Juan Carlos Salgado, and Yuriorkis Gamboa to name a few. Barros is coming off a loss to Salgado, so will be looking to get back on top of his game and make a statement on Saturday night. Garcia will need to bring his A game along to beta Barros.
When all is said and done, arm chair and critics aside, Mikey Garcia hasn’t lost a fight, and has disposed of 25 of his 29 opponents by knockout; an impressive resume by any standards. A natural right hander, Garcia possesses good if not excellent power in both hands. Combine all of these elements, and fans are going to be in for a potentially great all action fight.
My prediction is a Garcia win by late stoppage.
