Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has had his fair share of critics throughout the world. In his home country of Mexico, he has been highly criticized throughout his career. You may not know the level as to how he has been regarded but if you’ve heard the saying “the biggest enemy of a Mexican is another Mexican” then you would understand.

Hall of fame trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain has been one of those critics for the longest time. He along with Juan Manuel Marquez has often spoken out on cherry-picking and fighters that seemed to be avoided. It’s gotten heated at times as well.

Nacho has not been seen much in our neck of the woods and Covid has many parts of the world on pause. In fact, Nacho is currently battling Covid. That does not mean that boxing is on hold for him as he saw Canelo’s bout with Callum Smith and it’s changed the way Nacho views the Mexican phenom and he believes that if a third fight with Gennady Golovkin were to take place Canelo could possibly KO GGG.

“Now Álvarez did convince me [of his abilities with the Smith fight],” stated Nacho. “They talk about the third fight with Golovkin, I think that at this moment Canelo would be able to knock him out and I someone who is classified as one of his main critics.”
