WBA & WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Champion Patrick Nielsen (20-0, 9 KOs) and Jose Pinzon (24-5, 15 KOs) today came face-to-face for the first time at the official press conference at MusikTeatret Albertslund. Their clash will be the main event of Saturday´s Nordic Fight Night. “I will take the fight to Nielsen,” Pinzon promised. “We have a great boxing heritage, a great tradition in Mexico, and my style is very Mexican. I am aggressive and come forward a lot. From studying Nielsen I think I can say that we are quite similar, we both like to go forward. Styles make fights and this one will be entertaining.”
Nielsen will be fighting in his home city of Albertslund for the first time of his professional career. “I don´t feel additional pressure,” he said. “If anything, the homecoming gives me more energy because I am around the people I like and love. I can only benefit from fighting at home. I´ll just go out, do my job and beat my opponent.”
Promoter Nisse Sauerland believes that Pinzon is the final obstacle between the 22-year-old Dane and a title fight in 2014. “This is a big night for Patrick,” he stated. “He has progressed very well in 2013 so if he wraps up the year in style he will fight for a world title in 2014. Fingers crossed that all goes well, Pinzon is a strong opponent. Mexicans always come to fight. Pinzon is aggressive and will go to war with Patrick.”
Said coach Joey Gamache: “Patrick got all the tools to be successful – and he will need them against Pinzon. I´ve seen his fights, he´s a strong, durable opponent. Patrick will have to be at the top of his game to beat him.”
Meanwhile, the Guinness Book of Records has officially accepted Team Sauerland´s attempt to break the world record for fan noise. “We´ve brought some 2000 ear plugs with us,” Sauerland said. “We´ll have everything we need to get our names in the record books – a great venue, a crazy crowd and fantastic fights. The atmosphere will be sensational on Saturday.”
Patrick´s brother Micki Nielsen will also be in action, fighting Bjoern Blaschke from Germany. Dennis Ceylan will be looking to expand his unbeaten streak when he takes on Edgar Torres from Mexico. Tickets are available at www.billetnet.dk.
