What is Boxing all about? Is it just a competition of brutality, two men slugging it out to the finish for the right to be called superior? Or is it about more than bragging rights? One might feel obligated to resist the predispositioning of thoughts and opinions about the sport after indulging into the lives of the athletes themselves. What we see in most cases is just the tip of the iceberg. What we don’t see is all the hard work, in and out of the ring, that goes into the 3 minute increments of these athletes’ lives. Years, months, days, hours, into an opportunity given 3 minutes at a time. One such athlete, will make the best of his opportunity on the Square Vision Card, A Night of Glory, August 2nd in Pleasanton.

He comes home from a long day’s work, to a loving wife and two beautinful children, one being all of 2 months old. A loving father, Moises Benitez embraces his family, including the newest addition, Moises Jr. He’s a proud and caring family man, but it’s not long before his obligations to provide, have him on the move and away from his family again. Benitez is off to join his second family, a local Boxing Gym and the other love of his life, Boxing, as he heads for his daily training routine at Dreamland Boxing, San Jose. To prepare for his upcoming fight and professional debut August 2nd in Pleasanton, Benitez is dedicated and determined to make a statement. Benitez, fighting to provide a better life and opportunity for his family and the people who support him, will be fighting for so much more than bragging rights and popularity, he will be fighting for a cause.

Boxing is the toughest sport, both physically and mentally. It’s a sport of skill, chance, and in most cases, the winner is the individual with more heart and determination. In the case of Benitez, his Trainer “Sarge” of Dreamland Boxing, believes Moises has the winning formula to be great and make it big in the sport. “He’s determined and works hard everytime he’s in the gym. He’s ready to make a statement that he’s a different class of fighter than the other guy he’s fighting, he’ll prove it”- in the ring August 2nd.

In a sport of Mayweathers’ and Broners’, it’s refreshing to see what could possibly be a future face of boxing’s elite. Moises has a professional and personable demeanor, one of a true “People’s Champion”. He says this fight is for “Family” and his “Gente”, being of Mexican decent, he knows how much this means to the community by being able to showcase his talents in front of the home crowd. He knows that in the scheme of things, the journey to greatness will not be easy or quick, but he assured “as long as I have my family and fans behind me, and an opportunity in front of me, I’m going to be the best and I will reach the top”. This fight is an opportunity for a young man and his family, a step in the right direction for an individual, like Moises, who sacrifices time with his family, spending countless days and hours in the gym. He fights for a cause greater than self recognition, money, or bragging rights. . This fight is not about being the best, but it is the first step in the journey towards greatness.

Moises “El Halcon” “The Hawk” Benitez is scheduled to make his Pro Debut August 2nd 2014, on the Night of Glory Battle for the Golden State card presented by SquareVision Entertainment. He is scheduled for 4 rounds in the lightweight division vs. Percy Peterson of Stockton, Ca.
