Shawn PorterAdrien Broner and Shawn Porter are both Ohio bred. On June 20th it will be the battle for Ohio when it goes down at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The catch weight for the bout is 144 lbs. with neither guy being able to go in 154 lbs. fight night. This figures to be an advantage for Broner who was fighting at the 140 lb. limit recently. Porter has been a 147 lb. fighter most of his career and has fought at higher weights in the amateur.

But Shawn and his father feel they can make the weight properly and still beat Adrien Broner. So that’s why the fight was taken and because it’s on NBC and because it’s Adrien Broner.

“I have a big opportunity to really showcase what I have and I’m prepared to do it against Adrien Broner one of the biggest names in boxing,” Porter told ThaBoxingVoice.com.

Both guys being from Ohio have known each other since they were growing up. Porter says they are very familiar with each other and in a way have watched each other grow into stars in the sport.

“We come from the same neck of the woods being from Ohio,” Porter said. “We have some familiar settings and we’re very familiar with one another and some ways we watched each other grow in boxing.”

Even with the familiarity and maybe even love they have for each other, they will still throw down. May the best man win Porter says in one of the biggest fights in boxing.

“Like he said, at the end of the days it’s a business,” explained Porter. “He understands why this fight was made because it’s a big fight. This fight was made because we’re both from Ohio. We’re both going to make the most money fighting each other and this is going to be one of the biggest fights in boxing.”
