robert_garcia_t750x550Robert Garcia has had a good start to 2015. Aside from getting Brandon Rios back on the winning track, he’s picked up a good Heavyweight in Mike Perez. His two marquee fights involved his fighter Marcos Maidana taking on Floyd Mayweather Jr. Garcia feels Maidana will be back in the second part of the year because he is taking a well-deserved break from the sport.

“A fighter like Maidana, who had 3 big fights in 9 months back to back, He needed some time off,” Garcia told Fighthype.com. “He’s enjoying life. He’s getting married April 24th. Then he’ll make a decision after that. Maybe we won’t see him back in the ring until late September or October, maybe one time this year. It’s well deserved.”

The outlook for 2015 is strong for Garcia. He has Mike Perez fighting Alexander Povetkin, Brandon Rios returning soon, and hopefully Mikey Garcia getting back in the ring. It’s still early, but he expects a big year.

“We’ve had some good wins and some good fights, but it’s only March,” explained Garcia. “I’ve got some really good fights coming up in April with some of my fighters, hopefully Brandon (Rios) gets good dates. Hopefully Mikey (Garcia) gets back in the ring, you know Maidana comes back with a good win, should be a good year for us.”

The one date Garcia has penciled in on his calendar is May 9th in Houston Texas. Although he is not involved in the big fight between Canelo Alvarez and James Kirkland, he is excited as a fan.

“It’s a great fight, I think Kirkland has proven a lot of people wrong but all of a sudden he comes out of nowhere and makes a great win. So it’s going to be a great fight. It’s probably going to be 40,000-50,000 people, fans at the arena. Just the fact that they’re going to be able to pull that off is huge.”
